Description of the Orchid Flower
the orchid is arguably the most common flower that is out there. there are over 25,000 species of this flower that are spread out across 880 genera. This is a flower that over time we have just seen more and more of. Orchids have some serious history too, it was Charles Darwin that actually looked at the cross-pollination that is used by orchids and he actually wrote a book on it. in terms of the flower, the orchid is a plant that is easily distinguishable from other plants in the wild. You will find that all of the orchids are perennial herbs and they grow two different ways. You will either have a monopodial orchid that has a single bud of a flower or you will have a sympodial orchid that has different shoots that have different blooms. the flower of the orchid is unique and can come in so many different colors and sizes.
Catasetum, a genus discussed briefly by Darwin, actually launches its viscid pollinia with explosive force when an insect touches a seta, knocking the pollinator off the flower.
